The Cognitive Autonomy Audit

Not a quiz about attitudes. Fifteen statements about what you actually do, across the five dimensions this site argues are load-bearing. It returns a shape rather than a score — your lowest dimension is your exposure, and it is usually not the one you would have guessed.

Runs entirely in your browser. Nothing is transmitted, stored or logged.

Judgment Whether you still form and defend your own conclusions on things that matter.

1 Before asking a model about something consequential, I write down my own answer first.

2 I have accepted an AI-generated conclusion that I could not have independently verified.

3 In the last month I overruled a confident AI output and turned out to be right.

Curiosity Whether information gaps stay open long enough to become real questions.

4 I look things up the instant I wonder about them, without guessing first.

5 I let questions sit unresolved for days because I want to work them out.

6 I ask what serious people disagree about, not just what the answer is.

Skill retention Whether the capacities that let you evaluate output are being maintained.

7 I write the first draft of important things myself.

8 There is a skill I used to have that I would now struggle to perform unaided.

9 I regularly do work unassisted that I could easily have delegated.

Accountability Whether your name on a decision means anything you could defend.

10 I approve AI-influenced outputs faster than I could meaningfully review them.

11 If I rejected the system’s recommendation, there would be no penalty for me.

12 I could explain, to someone affected by a decision I signed, why it was made.

Presence Whether you are depended upon, and whether your gestures still cost you anything.

13 There is someone whose week would be materially worse if I disappeared.

14 I have used AI to generate a personal message to someone I care about.

15 I spend time in person with people when a call would have done.
